Chang Wufei’s name is indeed inspired by the historical figure Zhang Fei from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, combined with the Chinese number “five” (五) to reflect the series’ numeric theme for the five Gundam pilots (Heero as 1, Duo as 2, Trowa as 3, Quatre as 4, and Wufei as 5).
